Project Overview
Interior Screed Group were appointed to install a high-performance screed across the ground floor of a newly renovated property in Manchester.
The underfloor heating system had already been installed by others, and the client required a strong, thermally efficient screed with excellent flatness. Ready to accept all common final floor finishes.
We installed 138m² at 75mm thick Tarmac Tru Screed as the primary screed layer over the UFH insulation and pipework.
Scope of Work
- Inspect and verify the UFH installation completed by others.
- Check pipe spacing, clipping and insulation integrity.
- Install perimeter insulation strip around all walls, columns and fixed points (where required).
- Apply Tarmac Tru Screed (externally batched) across 138m² of ground floor.
- Hand-screed, compact and level to achieve high flatness (SR1) suitable for tiles, LVT or engineered timber.
- Provide curing protection and aftercare guidance.
Challenges
- Third-party UFH installation. As the UFH system was installed by another contractor, we needed to perform a detailed inspection to ensure pipe stability and coverage before screeding.
- Large, open-plan areas. The ground floor included several open zones — kitchen, hall, lounges — requiring consistent levels across long spans with minimal deviation.
- Varying substrate tolerance. Some sections of the slab were uneven, meaning screed depth had to be monitored closely to prevent over- or under-coverage.
Our Solution
Full UFH integrity check. Our team carried out a complete pipework review:
- confirming heating loops were clipped securely
- ensuring no high spots in the insulation that could influence screed depth

- reduced shrinkage and no laitance removal or sanding requirement
