Floor Screeding Questions
Screeding is the process of applying a well-blended mixture of cement and sand (or other materials) over a concrete subfloor to create a smooth, level surface suitable for final floor finishes.
Traditional screed is manually mixed and laid, typically thicker and more suitable for areas requiring a sloped finish. Liquid screed (also known as flowing screed) is pumped into place, offering faster installation, quicker drying times, and better coverage, especially over underfloor heating.
It depends on the type of screed used. Traditional sand and cement screed typically takes 24–48 hours to dry enough for light foot traffic, and 28 days for full drying. Fast-drying or liquid screeds can be walkable in 24 hours and dry fully within 7–14 days.
Preparation & Aftercare
All surfaces should be clean and level. We will advise you on necessary preparations, which may include laying insulation, damp-proof membranes, or installing underfloor heating systems.
Yes, we offer a complete underfloor heating and screed package. We’ll ensure the heating system is installed and pressure-tested before applying the screed.
Flooring can only be laid once the screed has fully dried and the moisture levels are within an acceptable range. We recommend performing a moisture test before any final flooring is fitted.
