In hot or drying weather care should be taken that the concrete or screed materials do not stiffen or dry out to an extent that prevents thorough compaction.

After compaction and finishing, the surface should not be allowed to dry out quickly. This can be achieved by protection with plastics sheeting or other suitable means. In addition, where concrete or screed is laid in the open, its surface should be protected from the effects of the sun to reduce the risk of thermal cracking on subsequent cooling.
